The Panel Haus Journal

Notes from building Panel Haus: what AI comics actually cost, how to keep a character consistent, and what a brand activation really produces.

How do you point a speech bubble tail at the speaker?
Select the bubble, hold T, and move the mouse. The tail follows the cursor to wherever you point. Drag while holding T to bend it, scroll to change its thickness, tap G to pin it. Tails are vector, so they export sharp at print size.

What does one ink buy in Panel Haus?
One ink makes one HD panel. The Pro model costs 2 ink a panel and 4K costs 4. A comic page is about four panels, so 200 ink is roughly 50 pages. Here is the whole exchange rate, and what does not cost ink at all.

What does Panel Haus store about you, and who owns what you make?
You own everything you make, we do not train on it or sell it, and we can delete it on request. The one thing we cannot delete is work you chose to register as IP on a public blockchain. Here is what is stored, where, and who sees it.

What can you do in Panel Haus for free?
The whole studio, with a one-off grant of ink to see what it makes. Layouts, lettering, the full canvas, Motion, and exports at HD. What you would pay for is the Pro model, unlimited custom layouts, a bigger character vault and ink every month.

Why Panel Haus prices in panels, not credits
Nobody knows what a credit is worth, so we stopped selling them. Every plan now says how many panels it makes, one ink is one HD panel, and ink on a plan is cheaper than ink bought on top. It was not, until September 2026.

How many panels should a comic page have?
Three to six for most pages. Panel count is a pacing decision, not a design one, and in an AI comic it is also a cost decision. Of the 437 layouts Panel Haus ships, two thirds are between two and five panels.

How do you letter a comic?
Lettering is placement and reading order, not font choice. The bubble goes where the eye should travel next, the tail points at the speaker, and tails must never cross. Everything else is detail.

Why do my comic pages not look like they belong together?
Because each page was generated with its own lighting and palette, and nothing carries between generations. The fix is one grade applied across every page, which costs no ink and takes about a minute.

Why do my AI images look like posters instead of comic panels?
Because you asked for a picture of a thing, and a panel is a picture of a moment. A poster is composed to be looked at. A panel is composed to be read past, with room left for the words and a job to do in a sequence.

Do you need Midjourney to make a comic?
No. Image generators are built to make one striking image, and a comic needs twenty consistent ones. Those are different problems, and the second one is the hard one.

How do you fix one thing in an AI comic panel?
Three ways, and the right one depends on how much of the panel is wrong. Regenerate just the region, reroll the whole thing, or stop generating and compose the fix out of transparent layers.

How do you get a comic you made online actually printed?
Export a print-ready PDF and order it through the app. Three sizes are printable, and whether your book is stapled or spine-bound is decided by one thing: the page count.

How do you keep an AI character looking the same in every panel?
You stop describing them and start referencing them. Define a character once as a reusable blueprint, then cast it into every panel, so the description cannot drift between generations.

How do you make a comic if you can't draw?
You write it and let the panels be generated. The skill a comic actually needs is not drawing, it is deciding what happens in each panel, and that part was never the drawing.

Panel Haus vs Canva for making comics
Canva is a general design tool that can produce a comic-shaped image. Panel Haus is built for sequential art. The difference shows up on page two, when the same character has to appear again.

Can you run AI image generation on your own GPU?
Yes. Run ComfyUI locally, bridge it to Panel Haus with a free Cloudflare tunnel, and generate on your own hardware instead of ours. You need an NVIDIA card with at least 6GB of VRAM.

Why the meme is the door and the studio is the house
You cannot lead with "AI comic studio" before anyone is paying attention. So we start at the opposite end, with the lowest-commitment thing a person can make, and build the ladder behind it.

The nine-layer canvas, and how a browser comic editor exports pixel-clean
An editor has to draw things the export must never contain. Panel Haus solves it with nine strictly ordered layers and a second canvas that the user never sees.

How much does it cost to make a comic with AI?
One ink makes one HD panel, a page is about four panels, and a full 12 page comic is 48 to 60 panels. On a plan that is roughly $5 to $6 a comic; topped up, $6 to $7.50. A short six page comic is about half that. Here is where the numbers come from.
